Dr. Jaime Contla

Dr. Jaime Contla earned his medical degree from one of the most prestigious universities in all of Mexico, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, or as it’s known world-wide, UNAM. Where Dr. Contla graduated in 1997, and then began his practice as a Nephrologist, which is a doctor who specializes in diseases and conditions that affect the kidneys. They work to treat conditions such as chronic kidney disease, kidney infections, and kidney failure. Dr. Contla has been employed for the past 24 years at IMMS, which stands for the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, or the Mexican Healthcare System; which provides universal health care to Mexican families and foreign residents enrolled in the system. The IMSS healthcare service is funded by a combination of the Federal government, employer payroll taxes, and employee payroll taxes.

Dr. Contla’s private practice offices are located around the corner and down the street from the only drive-thru McDonald’s restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, at the three story AMC Hospital building on Paseo de La Marina Street. AMC meaning the American Medical Center. The very low key, friendly, and savvy Dr Contla is Bilingual, fluent in English and is a specialist in treating Hypertension, Hemodialysis, Acute kidney injury, kidney infection, and Pyelonephritis; which is an inflammation of the kidney, typically due to a bacterial infection, whose symptoms most often include fever and flank tenderness, as well as nausea, burning with urination, and frequent urination.

For a time, Dr. Contla also worked at La Raza Medical Center, in the nearby Southern Baja California state capital city of La Paz. At his private practice offices, Dr. Contla maintains a brand spanking new, state of the art, Dialysis Machine, a modern day apparatus that filters a patient’s blood to remove excess water and waste products when the kidneys are damaged, dysfunctional, or missing. The dialysis machine itself can be thought of as an artificial kidney.

”We get everyone from many different places like Cancun, Tijuana, Michoacan, La Paz, and Los Cabos,” said Dr. Contla, when discussing the number of patients that arrive for treatment. ”Dr. Contla, answered all of my doubts about my illness.
