Romeo y Julieta Restaurant
Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, México.
More than a quarter-century ago, Cabo pioneer, Don Luis Bulnes, created one of the first restaurants in Los Cabos, the iconic Italian restaurant Romeo y Julieta.
Diners can be fickle in any community, but especially in tourism towns. Yet Romeo & Julieta has stood the ravages of time and is now better than ever, thanks to Italian-born Executive Chef Matias Forte, who is passionate about having everything fresh and prepared to order. Forte’s kitchen is his castle, where he spends a great deal of time making sure that “everything is under control.”
In fact, the entire operation is a well-oiled machine. A pizza chef prepares made-to-order pizzas in the stone oven that is open to the romantic patio and seasoned focaccia bread that is liberally drizzled with oil and served hot to the table upon arrival of the diners.
The kitchen chefs are well trained for their particular stations. The white-coated waitstaff scurries around the tables serving water, pouring wine, making suggestions, and readying the makings for the famous Caesar salad-made table side, of course- with an eye out for whatever else needs attention.
Patrons come from all over the world and most report they have been visiting Cabo San Lucas for many years; Romeo & Julieta is always on their dining list. When asked why, they respond that the minute they walk in the door, they are greeted like family-many times by name, especially from headwaiter Felix, himself a longtime fixture in the restaurant-and they are always delighted with the food.
