The Baja Peninsula boasts some of the most exciting snorkelling sites in all of the world. Jacques Cousteau famously referred to the Sea of Cortes as the “aquarium of the world,” and it is indeed home to abundant marine life that come in all shapes, stripes, and colors. In Los Cabos, snorkelers can book outings with any of several qualified tour companies like Cabo Expeditions and Cabo Adventures or hop aboard a charter that also offers snorkeling like the Buccaneer Queen or Cabo Mar.

In Cabo San Lucas, the best snorkelling spots are found near Land’s End. Here you can swim alongside playful sea lions and view more than 40 different types of fish. You will want to stay within the Cabo San Lucas Bay, though, because the waters on the Pacific Ocean side of Land’s End are simply too rough to navigate. Along the Tourist Corridor, the stretch of highway that connects Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, there are several places to snorkel. Activity companies frequent beaches like Chileno and Santa María. Chileno, one of the cleanest beaches in all of Mexico, is especially great for snorkeling because those large boats stay farther out in the water, providing a safer space to explore. And, should the crowds grow too big for your taste, you can walk several paces to a less populated area.

The San Jose del Cabo snorkeling options are limited; certain stretches of sand are too wild for swimming. But you can plan a trip to the East Cape, which is known for its ideal diving and snorkelling conditions. Cabo Pulmo in the East Cape has the only coral reef alongside North America’s Pacific side. And, unlike other reefs, it has grown 300 percent since it was declared protected.
